For over a decade the IPPFA has offered the public pension trustee a 32-hour certification course designed to help pension trustees deal with the difficult tasks facing pension funds such as deciding disability issues, selecting consultants and managers and dealing with funding. |
 |

In 2009, the Illinois State Legislature made it mandatory for newly elected or appointed trustees to attend a 32-hour certification course within 12 months of appointment or election. This requirement has made it difficult for some municipalities to find citizens to appoint to pension boards because of the time appointed trustees must dedicate to training. To help qualified people to be appointed and remain on boards the IPPFA in partnership with Northern Illinois University is proud to offer its 32 hour Certified Trustee Online Program.
The cost
of the program is $800 per
participant for IPPFA members and $1,250 for non-members and includes
all instructions, a notebook, all textbooks and related
handout materials. The Illinois Department of Financial
& Professional Regulation, Division of Insurance has
approved this fee as a "necessary pension fund expense"
under the Illinois Pension Code. All
Article 3 & 4 Pension Trustees elected or appointed
AFTER August 13, 2009 are required to attend a
32-hour trustee certification course within 18 months
of election or appointment to the board.
